Black Tutors Canada Inc. | 2022 – 2025

Three years ago, Black Tutors Canada Inc. was born out of a simple yet powerful vision — to create a space where Black students could see themselves reflected in their educators, access culturally responsive learning support, and thrive academically with confidence and pride.

What started as a grassroots initiative founded by Michael Smith has grown into a national movement. Today, we proudly serve students and families across Canada, offering high-quality tutoring, mentorship, and academic guidance that extends far beyond the classroom.

Our Journey So Far

Since our launch in 2022, we have:

• Supported hundreds of students from elementary to post-secondary levels in achieving their academic goals.
• Partnered with schools, youth organizations, and community agencies to make tutoring and mentorship more accessible.
• Helped students build confidence, develop study skills, and rediscover their love of learning through representation and encouragement.
• Provided post-secondary scholarships, academic and employment references for youth pursuing higher education and career opportunities.
• Earned second place in a national pitching contest — and, in the spirit of giving back, we proudly donated our prize to support Black youth initiatives within our community.

Seeing our tutors’ impact on students’ confidence, identity, and sense of belonging makes every challenge worthwhile.

Navigating the Ebbs and Flows

Like any business, our path has had its ebbs and flows — moments of growth, change, and reflection. From managing partnerships across regions to adapting to the evolving needs of students and families, we’ve faced challenges that tested our adaptability and faith. But every challenge strengthened us. We learned to embrace change, lean on our community, and celebrate small wins along the way. These experiences have shaped us into a stronger, more grounded organization — one that continues to stand on the values of integrity, representation, and service.
