Black Tutors Canada connects students with Black tutors across Canada. To celebrate our two-year anniversary, Black Tutors Canada is excited to announce the launch of the first Black Tutors Canada – I Qualify Scholarship, aimed at supporting Canadian Black students in their academic journeys. Please read the following important instructions before applying.

Eligibility:

  • Must identify as culturally, socially, demographically, ancestry Black (i.e., African, Caribbean, Afro-Canadian, Afro-Indigenous and of the African-diaspora). This scholarship is open to Black newcomer students as well.
  • Currently enrolled in the Peel District School Board -OR- Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.
  • Accepted into a post-secondary institution in Canada as a full-time student for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Application requirement (steps 1-7):

  1. Sign up on our website (www.blacktutorscanada.ca): create a β€œStudent/Service user” account.
  2. Submit a creative 30-second video(do not exceed 30 seconds) answering the question: β€œWhy do we need a resource like Black Tutors Canada?” Be sure to state your name, what program you were accepted into and what institution you plan to attend (e.g. β€œHello, my name is Amanda Gorman. I was accepted into the Business Economics program at York University…” then state why you think we need a resource like Black Tutors Canada.

BE SURE TO:

  1. Transfer your video to us by creating a free account at https://wetransfer.com/. Send the 30-second video to info@blacktutorscanada.ca.
  2. NOTE: By applying and submitting any documents, images, pictures, or videos, you consent to Black Tutors Canada sharing it on our social media platforms, blog, and website, including your name, age, school board, program of study, and the institution you were accepted into. Black Tutors Canada will freely use these documents and information accordingly.
  3. Follow us on our social media platforms and β€œlike” and β€œshare” at least one of our posts.
  4. Google review: Click Google review to rate us.
  5. Personal Statement (250-500 words): Email to info@blacktutorscanada.ca
  6. Provide proof of post-secondary acceptance no later than June 2, 2025. Email β€˜Acceptance Letter’ to info@blacktutorscanada.ca.
  7. Provide a clear photograph of yourself (you can use your smartphone to take the picture).
  8. Your application package must include the completion of all the above steps and eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship. Check to ensure you have completed the below requirements before the deadline of June 2, 2025.

    • Email a shoulder-to-headΒ photograph/picture of yourself
  • Email attachments of your Personal Statement, Β Acceptance Letter, and Picture in one email with the words – Black Tutors Canada – I Qualify Scholarship – in the Subject line.

Scholarship Award:

  • Two students will be selected to receive $500each.
  • The scholarship is not based on grades or field of study; it focuses on your passion for education, how you exemplify Black excellence, and your plans to give back to your community.

Deadline:
