Algebra is a foundational area of mathematics that teaches students to recognize patterns, work with variables, solve equations, and develop logical problem-solving skills. I would be a strong Algebra tutor for students in Grades 6-10 because I have extensive experience providing personalized K-12 mathematics instruction and previously served as a Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors peer tutor. I focus on breaking challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps and adapting my teaching to each student’s learning needs.
Biology can become challenging in Grades 6-12 as students move from learning basic concepts to understanding complex processes, interpreting diagrams, applying knowledge, and connecting topics across units. Students may understand material in class but struggle to apply it independently or determine how to study effectively. As a Biology tutor, I aim to identify each student’s specific learning gaps and adapt my teaching accordingly. With an Honours BHSc, current medical training, and experience providing personalized K-12 tutoring, I can break difficult concepts into approachable steps, use different explanations and learning strategies, and help students build both their understanding and confidence in science.
Biochemistry can be challenging because it requires students to connect concepts from biology and chemistry while understanding complex topics such as metabolism, enzymes, proteins, and molecular interactions. Students may struggle with the volume of material, unfamiliar terminology, or applying biochemical principles rather than simply memorizing them. With an Honours BHSc and current medical training, I have extensive experience learning and applying biochemistry within broader biological and clinical contexts. As a tutor, I can identify where a student’s understanding breaks down, simplify complex pathways and mechanisms, and develop personalized strategies that make the material more manageable while strengthening problem-solving skills, confidence, and long-term understanding.
Geometry can be challenging for students because it requires them to visualize shapes, understand spatial relationships, apply formulas, and translate written problems into diagrams and mathematical steps. As concepts become more advanced, students may struggle to determine which strategies or formulas to use. As a tutor, I focus on identifying exactly where a student’s understanding breaks down and rebuilding concepts from that point. With experience providing personalized K–12 mathematics tutoring, I adapt explanations to each student’s learning style, use visual and step-by-step approaches, and provide guided practice that helps students strengthen their problem-solving skills, develop confidence, and approach unfamiliar geometry problems independently.
Chemistry can be difficult because students must connect abstract concepts with calculations, formulas, chemical reactions, and real-world processes. Topics often build on one another, meaning an earlier knowledge gap can make later material increasingly challenging. With an Honours BHSc, current medical training, and a Grade 12 Chemistry Award, I have a strong foundation in chemistry and its applications to the health sciences. As a tutor, I identify underlying knowledge gaps, break complex concepts into manageable steps, and adapt explanations to how each student learns best. My goal is to help students move beyond memorization, understand why concepts work, and confidently apply their knowledge to new problems.
Students can read every word on a page and still struggle to understand what a text is communicating. Reading comprehension requires students to identify main ideas, recognize important details, make inferences, interpret unfamiliar vocabulary, and eventually evaluate complex arguments. I work with students to determine which part of this process is creating difficulty and develop strategies targeted to that specific challenge. My experience in personalized tutoring, health sciences, medical education, and academic research has strengthened my ability to analyze complex information and communicate it clearly. I help students learn how to actively engage with texts, organize information, ask effective questions, and confidently explain what they have read in their own words.
Writing challenges can look very different at each educational level, from developing sentences and paragraphs to constructing persuasive essays, research papers, and university-level academic writing. Students may have strong ideas but struggle with organization, clarity, grammar, argument development, or translating their thoughts onto the page. I provide individualized support based on where each student is struggling rather than simply correcting their work. My academic, research, and publication experience allows me to teach brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, and academic communication strategies. I aim to help students understand how to improve their own writing so they become more confident, independent writers who can effectively communicate their ideas.
Reading difficulties can affect a student’s confidence and performance across nearly every subject. Depending on their level, students may struggle with vocabulary, fluency, identifying important information, navigating increasingly complex texts, or maintaining focus while reading. At the university level, students may instead need support efficiently approaching dense academic readings and identifying key arguments. Through my experience providing personalized K–12 instruction and extensive academic experience, I tailor strategies to each student’s specific needs and goals. I aim to make reading feel manageable rather than overwhelming by breaking texts into smaller components, strengthening vocabulary and reading strategies, and helping students gradually become more confident and independent readers.
Psychology introduces students to fascinating concepts about human behaviour, development, cognition, and social interactions, but students may struggle with the volume of terminology, distinguishing similar theories, or applying concepts to unfamiliar scenarios. My background in health sciences and medicine has provided extensive experience studying human behaviour and health from biological, psychological, and social perspectives. As a tutor, I help students organize complex information, identify relationships between concepts, and connect theories to understandable real-world examples. Rather than relying solely on memorization, I help students develop effective study strategies and strengthen their ability to explain and apply psychological concepts independently, building both academic confidence and lasting understanding.
Mathematics can become frustrating when students develop gaps in foundational skills, struggle to understand why a method works, or feel unsure about how to approach unfamiliar problems. Because mathematical concepts build on one another, these challenges can affect both performance and confidence over time. With experience providing personalized K-12 mathematics instruction and tutoring senior-level mathematics, I tailor sessions to each student’s individual needs. I identify knowledge gaps, break difficult concepts into clear and manageable steps, and provide guided practice that gradually builds independence. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students strengthen their mathematical foundations, develop effective problem-solving strategies, and become confident approaching new challenges.
